Design Intervention II

Working with Wind

Wind Energy

For the second design intervention I worked with wind energy to experiment generating electricity through the usage of wind. I tried to use easily available materials that can be found at homes like water bottles to see if I could make blades that are aerodynamic and with a simple small rotatory motor.

Wind energy advantages:
Clean and renewable: Wind power is generated by harnessing the kinetic energy of moving air, without producing greenhouse gas emissions.
Scalable: Wind turbines can range from small installations for individual homes to large-scale wind farms, making it adaptable to different energy needs.
Cost-effective: Once installed, wind turbines have relatively low operational costs compared to traditional fossil fuel power plants.

Below are the image of some of the prototypes I developed using the bottles, the wind was fast enough to generate electricity to light up a LED bulb!

Reflection

Working with wind energy was super insightful and allowed me to use something widely available resource - wind - to generate electricity. The concept matched perfectly with my area of interest and was way easier to work with than I imagined. There were multiple different blades that I can create for aerodynamic purposes that would work faster, however this one worked best and was able to stably generate electricity through wind and lit up a LED!

I would love to incorporate this experiment into my further projects as it aligns perfectly with my interest and with biomaterial incorporation I would like to see what I can achieve!
